At a dementia forum in Tamworth (Australia) John Quinn spoke of living a remarkably active life with early onset dementia. He recounted the difficulties he faced in the period before the diagnosis was made. John has deficits in some domains of function but retains assets in other functions. Sid, as opening speaker for the forum, emphasised that dementia is not a single ‘thing’; that there are many forms of impaired brain function which come under the umbrella term ‘dementia’; that these affect various domains of function differently and that each person who experiences dementia is unique – before being affected by a form of dementia.
